"And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen." (Romans 16:20)

What a wonderful promise is set before the saints of God! If you are in Christ Jesus, God "will soon crush Satan under your feet."NASB Blessed contemplation for those who are presently confronting his "wiles" (Eph 6:11), and must contend with his temptations (1 Cor 7:5; 1 Thess 3:5). The best and most prodigious laborers in the Kingdom have often been "hindered" by Satan (1 Thess 2:18). Others have been visited by messengers of Satan who buffeted and pummeled them (2 Cor 12:7). But this will not always be the case. Shortly, the God of peace, who is able to subdue all things unto Himself, will "bruise Satan under your feet."
That means, of course, that Satan is NOT presently under our feet. Jesus once gave His disciples power "over all the power of the enemy." They were virtually invincible, and "nothing" could "by any means" hurt them (Lk 10:19). Jesus still can do this. However, nothing in all of God's Word suggests this was a permanent situation in this world–even for the Apostles. Herod killed James (Acts 12:2). The Apostles were "beaten" (Acts 5:40). The disciples were "scattered" (Acts 8:1-4). Stephen and Antipas were martyred (Acts 7:59; Rev 2:13). Paul and Silas were beaten and imprisoned (Acts 16:22-23). Both Paul and Peter were martyred. Instead, Satan is walking about, "seeking whom he may devour" (1 Pet 5:8). He transforms himself into an "angel of light," spreading delusion throughout the world in the very name of Jesus (2 Cor 11:14). He still desires the people of God, to sift them (Lk 22:31-32). Solemnly, we are charged to give the devil "no place" (Eph 4:27), but rather "resist" him (James 4:7). But it will not always be so! A time is coming when he will be crushed under our feet!
God will do the crushing, but He will use "our feet." His walking to and fro will be ended, and we will never again confront him in any sense. Until then, any cessation of the struggle against him is only temporary. But we look forward to crushing him under our feet when we judge men and angels. He will be crushed under our feet when we stand before the presence of God's glory faultless and with exceeding joy. He will be bruised under our feet when we hear the words, "Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord" (Matt 25:21). It will all take place "shortly," not in respect to time, but from the perspective of faith. Live with the next significant appointed event in mind: the crushing of Satan under your feet. Pleasant contemplation!
